REWARD OFFERED for help in solving the Great Zen Golf Internet Mystery! Zen Golf is popular the world over, even on Facebook. Unfortunately, most people who have “liked” Zen Golf on Facebook aren’t connecting with us. Early in social media’s life, an anonymous Zen Golf fan started a fan page for our book; more than 900 users, (maybe you are one of them,) clicked the “like” button. We sincerely appreciate all of the support, but in this case, we would also appreciate a little help.

Our official “Zen Golf: Mastering the Mental Game” Facebook page has just over 100 likes and we’d prefer all 1,000-plus of us to get on the same page! If you are, or know of, the person who created the page, or if you perhaps know how to combine the two pages, we are offering a wonderful reward package to the Zen Golfer who provides us with information leading to the combination of our Facebook split personality. Email info@zengolf.com or call the Zen Golf office at 805.640.1046 with all relevant information and to claim your reward!  And if you haven’t “liked” us yet, please do it now.

Hard to believe that Zen Golf’s initial publication run came 10 years ago! The book is now in its 14th printing, available in eight languages, as an e-book and audiobook, and for audio downloads. More than a quarter million hardcover copies are in golfers’ libraries and golf bags worldwide. Many of you, as you’ve told us via emails, calls and in person, have favorite chapters.

For your listening pleasure, we present the very popular “Bacon and Eggs Breakfast” chapter:
Here’s the opening story:
"A man from town asked an old farmer to be on a citizens committee that would work to improve various things about the town. The farmer asked, “Do you want me to be involved or committed?”
Puzzled, the man asked, “What’s the difference?”
The farmer answered, “It’s like a bacon and eggs breakfast. The chicken is involved, but the pig is committed.”

The Shivas Irons Society (SIS) celebrates a significant anniversary this year. Created 20 years after the publication of Michael Murphy’s classic book, Golf in the Kingdom, and in response to letters from readers sharing their own spiritual experiences on the golf course, SIS has become a premiere non-profit golf organization. With a full schedule of golf outings, support for youth golf and a huge library of golf resources, the group, open to all golfers, is a great tribute to the spiritual side of golf.

I’ve been a member for more than 10 years, and was asked to join the board of directors in 2010.  I’ll present the keynote address at the 20th anniversary celebration this summer; stay tuned for details. If you aren’t a member and are interested in joining, click here.

Gene Singer of Inwood Country Club near New York City is one of Dr. Joe and Zen Golf’s biggest fans. We’ll let him tell you his success story:

“A search of the Web for Top Mental Game Coaches led me to Dr. Joe - our first lesson was on the phone, and I wasn't disappointed. The first 20 minutes was spent answering my questions about the book and some of the hidden meanings of the stories. The next 25 minutes was spent beginning to learn Zen Golf. I say Zen Golf; however, the meanings and stories hold true to all facets of our lives. My wife says since becoming a client of Dr. Joe, I have become a better person. But on the golf side, it just shows that plain old guys like me take five strokes off their game by reading the book, and another two strokes by mental coaching via phone with the doctor! I can’t say enough or sing enough praise about the man and his work. But, don’t take my word for it, try it for yourselves. You can thank me later.”

Get the most out of your game by getting out of your own way; let Dr. Joe help you via phone, Skype or in-person lessons. Email info@zengolf.com or call 805.640.1046.

The years 2009-2011 proved fertile ground for new major champions, as no single player won more than one tournament in the three-year stretch. This diversity over a similar period had not happened since the 1995-97 seasons. And, as a sure sign that the Tiger Woods era is coming to a close, the player with the most majors in the last four- and five-year spans is not 14-time winner Woods, but three-timer Paddy Harrington. Five of these players are 39 years or older, and there’s a good chance most of these 12 players (other than Phil Mickelson and Angel Cabrera) have won their only major trophy. The youngsters, such as Martin Kaymer, Keegan Bradley, Charl Schwartzel, and especially Rory McIlroy, clearly have plenty of time and talent to fortify their trophy cases, however, and we look forward to the next generation.

The year 2011 saw two particularly important bounce-backs, with Rory McIlroy coming back from the heartache of his final-round collapse at the Masters with a brilliant, runaway victory at the U.S. Open, and Tiger Woods winning his first tournament in quite a while in the final event of the year, his own Chevron Challenge. We certainly wouldn’t mind watching them go head-to-head at one or more of this year’s biggies.

You can bounce back from disappointments on and off the course, as well. Dr. Joe is available for Golf and Executive coaching by phone and Skype; contact the Zen Golf office for details and scheduling.
